I really like the idea of Automatic Number Plate Recognition,
makes you feel a little safer when you are out on the road.
And with my eldest son having just started his driving lessons, this makes me feel a little better.

"Each pup had extensive head injuries. There were several depressions on the skull. consistent with being struck repeatedly. One of the pups effectively had its face moulded to the rock it was lying on, such had been the impact," Mr Mackenzie said.
“when he saw he was being observed he realised that what he was doing was wrong."
“Dropping the post he appeared to run off in an attempt to hide."

I don’t accept that he could suddenly realise when watched that what he was doing was wrong he must have known from the moment he hatched his evil and barbaric plan of action. Instead of running off like the coward he is he should face up to his actions this man should carry this burden and dip his head in shame of his actions for the rest of his life,
This is an issue that the civilised world should speak out against.

The Highlands and Islands & the Far North was relatively drug free, until it unfortunately became a MAGNET for criminals from the North of England. Drug dealers, sub dealers, rogues, swindlers are disturbing the peace and making life hard for the indigenous residents.
The ordinary citizen has the right to protect his/her family, possessions and exercise freedom of speech and it is their duty to report criminal activity.
With the aid of 'Crimestoppers' and the Police, this partnership will prove very beneficial in assisting in the conviction of criminals!

Wonderful to know that an organization such as this exists, I do hope it will make a difference however in helping bring evil-doers to justice because many evade the net and even when they are caught punishment is not severe enough.

We often here of the rights of criminals and how they can be represented in this way or that, but maybe just for a change the trials of the innocent should be brought to light and reflected upon during judgement.

Organised crime necessitates an organised response and I am delighted that this initiative has been set up.

Some very pleasing responses from the public, too, judging by the comments so far.

Most people are decent and hard-working; it is the liars and criminals that erode communities and society in general. Let us all stand firm against such like.

What a great incentive for young people to meet and enjoy all the different activities available in a safe environment. The amalgamation of different organisations pulling together should make this project a success and all for ONLY £1!
Novel idea to call the Discos, 'Blue Light,' I wonder who had this brain wave! A humorous account below .....

Red and blue lights

Judi was sitting at the defendant table while the state trooper was being cross-examined on the witness stand.

The lawyer asked, “When you stopped Judi, were your red and blue lights flashing?”

“Yes, sir, they were.”

“Did the defendant say anything when she got out of her car?”

“Yes, sir, she did.”

“And,” looking at Judi, "what was it she said?”

“She said, ‘What disco am I at?’”

Definitely NOT the * BLUE LIGHT DISCO! * lol

It's very reassuring to know that Crimestoppers exists and that it is taking an active interest in the criminal activities of the Highlands & Islands. I am especially reassured to know that I could call in total anonymity, without fear of repercussion from the criminals involved, if I had cause to.

It is often the more quiet, rural communities which suffer greatly from largely undetected or unprevented criminal activity.

Many thanks for your comments Yvonne, you have summarised the issues very concisely!

I am always pleased to hear views such as those expressed by Yvonne Jones from Caithness.

I agree with this point of view in its entirety and of course feel that our communities and the people who live and work within them are the key to tackling many of the problems we face.

I have always believed that a community uniting behind a common goal and purpose to protect each other and our families was the best defence.

Crimestoppers is working accross the entire Highlands and Islands region to help, assist and support our communities to do exactly this.

I believe that with spirited local people working together with Police and other partners in the area, we can jointly make a difference and show criminals that we will not sit back and allow them to infect the Highlands and Islands.

I think the partnership between the Police, Crimestoppers and the Media is an excellent idea. Many people throughout the Highlands and Islands will feel more relaxed about reporting crimes without the fear of intimidation because they know beforehand that anonymity is guaranteed. The online source is easy to access. The problem facing the Police today has heightened because drug dealers on the whole, no longer arrive to deal. They are now taking up residency in our neighbourhoods and living amidst our communities. In many instances untouched by the law. This is of course a concern for many law abiding residents. Animals are being stolen to fund their drug habits. These type of bullies, dealers, cowards and liars think nothing of this crime. Dealers are responsible for tearing whole families and communities apart. Young teenagers are easy prey for them and all too easily become addicts themselves and sadly a much loved son/daughter all to often becomes a cold statistic, but drug dealers never show any remorse, their greed for money supercedes this and if need be they are even prepared for their nearest and dearest to suffer at their hands also. It is a vicious circle of abuse on a grand scale.
The alliance between the Police and Crimestoppers also involves the public. We should all assist in keeping our backyards free from these destroyers. The Police deserve this help and we ought to pull together to prevent crime, not only for our sake, but for the future generation of children who have yet to grow up.

What happens when you have a problem with you electiricy, plumbing or heating in the winter months. Sorry misses I can't come for seven days, I have to give you a cooling off period incase you change your mind and want to cancel the contract for the repair. It doesn't matter that it is minus 5 outside I am bound by the law and if I flout it I could be fined upto £5000.
This law if going to affect legitimate businesses who have been carrying out there work for a number of years with no problems and affording the cowboy element free raine again.
If you think that someone will wait 7 days for a failure to be fixed you have got to be having a laugh. They will find someone who will do the job even though they are breaking the law.
What we need already is for someone to be taken to court to see the error of the law and a judge to point out that this is just another piece of red tape to prevent businesses operating.
This needs further clarification and hopefully the standards authority can look at this and see a practical way of resolving it.

Hi Betty,

Was this Holiday Club in Spain or its Islands? They are covered by EU law if trading within the European Union.
If this has happened within the last 14 days you can still under European Law get out of the contract and cancel any payment you had already made to them.Especially if the payment was by Credit Card. Don't hesitiate in contacting your local Trading Standards for further advice. (Their address can be supplied by your local council if you do not have it to hand).

These individuals prey on innocent victims when on holiday. When they get hold of you the don't let go.
They are ruthless and will take your last penny by telling out and out lies!!
Warning to all..... take care and don't get taken in by their promises and little prizes they tell you you may have won!

Hi,
My husband and I have been totally screwed by a supposed "Holiday Club" which we were told NO it is DEFINITELY not TIMESHARE it of course is. We've been sold a load of rubbish, it supposedly will be a leagacy for your children, alas! it's not worth the paper it's written on. To be honest we are frantic with worry how we are going to pay for this horrendous MISSREPRESENTED SALE. So please be warned, BE VERY CAREFUL. The very nice man who stated categorically "I'm NOT a SALESMAN" just someone who wants to see you both happy with our holiday programme, had us in his clutches from 10.00am until 4.15pm having been plied with Late Breakfast, Lunch, Including Wine, Afternoon Tea and 200% Bull---- we signed on the dotted line and are now stuck with a £29,000.00 DEBT we do not know how to pay.
